Sanctions Matrix

A sanction matrix is a grid used by a probation officer to match a sanction or punishment to a particular behavior that is not acceptable. The behavior may be a disregard for a term of probation, not attending an ordered program, or new criminal activity. The sanction may start very small such as a verbal warning but may escalate to incarceration if it is repeated or there is higher intensity of misbehavior.
