Formerly known as the California Youth Authority, DJJ is a division of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. DJJ operates the state’s youth correctional facilities and therefore is responsible for housing youth who have been committed to the state’s facilities after adjudication for 707(b) offenses. Pursuant to recent changes in California law, DJJ is scheduled to close its facilities effective July 1, 2023.
