The court follows required timelines, often prescribed by law, to hold each required hearing in a criminal case. For example, an arraignment must be held within 48 hours if the individual is in jail. These timelines may be waived by the individual and their legal counsel. A misdemeanor case is generally resolved in less than six months while a felony may take longer. The more serious charges may take over a year to resolve.
