Mandatory supervision

Under Penal Code 1170(h), individuals may be sentenced to a period of incarceration in jail followed by a period of supervision in lieu of time in custody. This is also known as a split sentence. The judge has the discretion to order the specific time the individual will spend in jail and on community supervision.
