Section 290 of the Penal Code

Section 290 of the Penal Code requires those individuals convicted of sex crimes and certain other offenses to register as a sex offender with local authorities. Depending on the offense, an individual may be required to register as a sex offender for 10 years, 20 years, or for life. It means the same as registering as a sex offender.
