Sentencing

Sentencing in criminal court is a declaration of punishment for a crime. It may take the form of fines, informal probation, formal probation, mandatory supervision, restitution, jail time, or state prison. Sentences are ordered by the judge who considers information contained in a pre-sentence investigation report done by probation.
